Mista Verify · 2FA

SMS two-factor authentication in two API calls

Verify phone numbers at sign-up, protect logins and confirm sensitive actions with one-time passcodes. Mista Verify generates, sends and checks the code — you just call start and check.

Why US businesses choose Mista

Start and check

One request sends the code, a second confirms it. No code storage, expiry logic or retry handling on your side.

Built for US phone numbers

Verification messages travel on registered routes to US carriers for reliable delivery.

Channel fallback

On Growth and Pro plans, Verify can route between SMS and WhatsApp to improve conversion.

Abuse-aware

Codes expire and each verification has a limited number of check attempts, protecting your flow from guessing.

Clear per-verification pricing

See exactly what each verification costs on the pricing page. Pay only for what you use.

SDKs included

Drop-in calls in Node.js, Python and Go, or use the REST API directly.

How it works

  1. Get an API key

Create a free account and copy your key from the dashboard.

  2. Call start

Send the user’s phone number; Mista delivers a one-time code.

  3. Call check

Pass the code the user entered; Mista tells you if it is valid.

  4. Go live

Monitor conversion and delivery in the dashboard and Mista Intelligence.

Where to use SMS verification

Use phone verification at sign-up to make sure each account belongs to a real, reachable person. Add SMS two-factor authentication to logins to block account takeovers when passwords leak. Ask for a one-time passcode before high-risk actions such as changing a payout account, resetting a password or approving a large transaction.

Why use a verification API instead of sending codes yourself

Building OTP yourself means generating secure codes, storing them, handling expiry and retries, limiting attempts, choosing delivery routes and monitoring delivery. Mista Verify does all of that behind two endpoints, so your team ships 2FA in an afternoon instead of a sprint.

Frequently asked questions

How does SMS two-factor authentication work with Mista?

Your app calls the Verify start endpoint with the user’s phone number. Mista sends a one-time code. When the user enters it, your app calls the check endpoint and Mista returns whether it matches.

Can I limit how many times a user can try a code?

Yes. Each verification has a maximum number of check attempts — five by default — after which the code can no longer be used.

Can Verify send codes by WhatsApp?

Yes. On Growth and Pro plans, Verify can route between SMS and WhatsApp.

How much does phone verification cost?

Verification is billed per attempt at the rate shown on the pricing page. You can start on the free plan.
